Recording domain data

When recording the domain data, you can first specify the general information for your domain. To do this, select the options “SMTP Domain” (for Microsoft® Exchange) and “SIP domain” (for Skype for Business). You also have the option of securing your domain with DNSSEC. To do this, activate the “DNSSEC” option. DNSSEC is a series of security enhancements for your domain. These security enhancements protect you from certain types of attacks, such as the falsification of DNS cache data: “fake” or falsified DNS entries and messages can be used to redirect Internet users to incorrect systems where they can be spied on, their data stolen, etc. With DNSSEC, your DNS requests and responses are digitally signed with an asymmetric encryption method. This ensures the integrity of data (so falsification in transit is no longer possible, for example) and the authenticity of sources (“The person I asked is also the one who has replied”).

If you enable the “SIP domain” option, your domain will automatically receive the DNS records required for use as an SIP domain during registration, so you can use it to form SIP addresses for Skype for Business.

If you select the “SMTP domain”, your domain will be identified as a sending and receiving domain in the Exchange server of the platform, so that after registration, you will be able to create email addresses using that domain.

You will have access to the “SMTP domain”, “SIP domain”, and “DNSSEC” options in the same way regardless of whether you are assigning a new domain or transferring an existing domain to Cloud Manager.

Domain holder and admin contact data

In addition to general information, you have to record data on the domain holder and admin contact (technical manager of the domain). If you have already registered a domain in Cloud Manager or transferred a domain to it, the form will be populated with all the previously used data on the domain holder and admin contact and this data cannot be changed in the form.

So-called “handle data” is used for the domain registration. This means that a contact record, consisting of domain owner and admin contact, is used in the same way as for a top-level domain. In the process, top-level domains are grouped into a so-called “handle group”. There is one contact record per top-level domain, so each top-level domain (.de, .com, .net, etc.) constitutes a handle group. If you have already registered a domain for a top-level domain included in this handle group, the respective contact data will be used for each additional domain registration for one of the top-level domains. To change the contact data for a handle group, select the function for editing contact data in the domain details of a registered domain. The contact data for the entire handle group will then be changed.

If you want to assign or take over a domain as a private person, please select “Mr.” or “Ms.” in the “Title” selection field. If acting for a company, please select “Company” instead and enter your company name as well as its organizational form.

Domain transfer / ChProv request (transfer request)

For a domain transfer (ChProv request), the form also contains an additional field for the AuthCode (authorization code). You will need this AuthCode (also called AuthInfo, EPP key, domain key) to prove that you are the holder of the domain in question and thus to authorize the transfer request.

You can get the AuthCode from your previous provider. Its purpose is to ensure that domains cannot be wrongfully transferred.

Registration process

After confirming all the necessary data by clicking on the “Register” button, the domain will initially be listed in the domain management with the status “assigned”.

During the ongoing registration process, you will be notified by email about the progress of your domain registration or transfer. On successful completion of your domain assignment/transfer, the domain will appear in the domain overview with the status “registered”.

Domains registered or transferred via Cloud Manager are identified as “verified” and “MX record verified” by default, and can thus be used immediately on successful completion of the registration, for your email addresses, for example.

Important note!

Please note that when you transfer a domain from your existing provider to Telekom Cloud Manager, the existing DNS records (such as A, MX, TXT and SRV records) are not automatically transferred. To enter DNS records, please contact the service desk, who will make the required entries for you. It is advisable to get in contact with the service desk before requesting the transfer in Cloud Manager if you wish to enter the DNS records. In this way, it can be ensured that your DNS records are available immediately on completing the domain transfer.
