No more support for Windows XP and IE 6 – Technical background

A cipher suite is a standardized collection of cryptographic methods, such as for encryption.

In the Transport Layer Security (TLS) protocol (formerly SSL), the cipher suite determines which algorithms are to be used to establish a secure data connection.

The cipher suite identifies a combination of four algorithms:

  • Key exchange
  • Authentication
  • Hash function
  • Encryption

The encryption algorithms offered and their sequence are decisive in the configuration of the cipher suite. The algorithms used in communication are negotiated between the client application and our services.

At the end of August 2017, the following cryptographic procedures for access to all services were disabled:

  • RC4
  • DES / Triple DES

This means that the corresponding cipher suites can no longer be used to establish a secure data connection.
